‘Man Therapy’ comes to Vermont

According to the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention, about 80% of suicide deaths in the U.S. are completed by men. In Vermont, eight in 10 suicide deaths are men. That alarming data prompted the state’s Department of Health (DOH) to seek resources to help. During the month of June, the department promoted Man Therapy, an online resource for men’s mental health originally launched in Colorado, now operating in Vermont.
Historically, men are less likely to seek help for mental health problems. They are often taught from a young age that boys do not cry and sharing your emotions is not “manly.” Or, other factors lead to suicidal ideation like unemployment, social isolation, death of a loved one, or divorce.
